Ok, so "Whoa-Man" isn't so much a song title as a line from a beat-poem in "So I Married an Axe Murderer", but Mike Myers sort of sings it, so I'm going to allow it.
Thanks to the good folks over at Twitter, I recently discovered an incredible website that I SO SO SO wish I had known about when I was single and screaming out "HOW LONG, LORD?" into my pillow at night.
Good Women Project is a cool collaborative blog with honest, raw, Jesus-centered writing from singles and marrieds alike, from both men and women (but mostly women). It's funny, real, and I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say it could be life changing. Whether you're a 30-year-old virgin, a divorced 20-something, a new believer, a woman looking for a new focus for her current "place" in life, or a married chica with wisdom and honest answers to share, there are essays and ideas and encouragement that YOU should read.
DO IT. Then tell all your friends about it. Especially the single ones.
Do you know of any other websites that talk about sex, loneliness, the church's often whacked-up view of sexuality, porn, marriage, men, self-esteem, dating, waiting, disappointment, oh, and even tough stuff like divorce, abuse, and self-lovin? From and for believers? Yeah, me neither. Disclaimer: Once you start reading, it will be hard to stop. Allow yourself a good chunk of time the first time you dive in.
I'm even thinking of writing a submission for the site. Not sure about what, though. My life is super boring now. And who wants to hear from a long-suffering single who is now married? Kind of takes the wind out of a lot of my credibility sails. If you only read one post on GWP, read this one, and watch all 7 minutes of the poet's video at the end. If you've got a man like she's describing, give him a big kiss and thank God (I did, last night). If you're still on the lookout for THE ONE, watch it again and pump your fist in the air. Or air-snap, whatever you like...
Inspiring. Makes me want to write stuff.
