get on your boots

http://goyb.u2.com/

it's inauguration day. yay! what a beautiful, hopeful, jubilant celebration. i'm hopeful, mr. president. and i'll be praying for you.

it is inauguration day, but it's also jm's birthday (happy birthday dear friend!). it's the day after a long weekend. AND, it's the official date of the world-wide release of the first single from the new U2 album slated for a march 3rd debut. it was posted on the U2.com website yesterday, so i got to dance around screaming it while i dismantled the pathetic remnants of my christmas tree.

and let me just say, without a hint of irony, that i think that "get on your boots" is a particularly apt command on this historic day.

allow me a soapbox for a minute, if you will.

get on your boots. it's freakin' freezing out there in chicago this season. it's tempting to tuck myself into the cushions and watch 'gossip girl' until my eyes fall out of my head and i'm all riled up from the beautiful boys and the gossamer girls and the clothes and the cars and the jewels dripping from wrung necks. it's easier to do my own thing. to slog into complacency, to forget the passions and heart that have driven me for a long time. it's time for me, i think, to get on my boots and get back out into the world. rawer, maybe, but determined. i'm not sure exactly what that means yet, but i have some ideas and i'll keep you posted.

get on your boots. america. millions screaming and cheering in their huddled masses on the mall. even our office stood up around the conference table where we were watching the swearing in. we're excited about obama. almost everyone is. but there's a lot of work to do, and he's not going to do everything by himself. get on your boots, america. there's work to do. celebrate our freedom and the chillbumps of change with some action and responsibility and some love. love love love.

get on your boots. a new U2 album! oh, the unmatched thrill of a new U2 album in the wings. i can hardly tell you. it sparkles. it means another tour. it means new anthems. it means possible Bono sightings. get on your boots and revel in the simple pleasures, where ever you can find them. snowballs and frozen lakes and steaming warm lattes.

you don't know
you don't know
you don't know
how beautiful
you are
