dance of the sugar plum fairies

sweetness?
sugarbee?
cupcake?
supernerdninjaface?

these have all been tried out. true story.

Yale and i are having some trouble being cutesy with each other. it is awkward and feels really really lame. funny, charming, sweet. and lame. it works best in texts and sometimes emails, and i can tell that we are both testing out obnoxious cheesy names to call each other to see if any of them could possibly be spoken outloud. he called me "sweetie" in the grocery store once and it triggered my gag reflex. maybe we were in the produce section near a stack of blueberries or something - i don't know. i just know that i didn't like it.

maybe it's because The Boy called me (and everyone else) "sweetie". maybe its that i don't feel particularly sweet most of the time. maybe i'm just getting a cavity and all that sugar puts me just a twinge over the top.

i'd try to pawn it off on PMS, but alas. no deal.

in my head i think that eventually we will strike on something perfectly natural and perfectly us. he seems to LOVE it when i call him something silly. and i like calling him silly cooing pet names. i have a long and lovely history with pet names, both calling and being called everything from hoooney to sisterface to bff to jillers to splashy. but so far Yale and i have yet to figure it out. so far i have not liked any of the sweet (and mostly food-based) names he has called me, except maybe supernerd. the other ones kind of make me groan with an inward resistence to the treacly cuteness.

maybe i just have to give in to the sillyness. let it melt me a little.

volcano? that's not very romantic if you don't know the damien rice song. and only obscurely romantic if you do.

paperweight? ditto the above, but for joshua radin.

i'll keep thinking. i know something will come to me sooner or later....

I don't think we had anything before we got married, but sort of as a joke of the ridiculous sappiness of newly weds we used to use a ridiculous overly candy coated voice of calling one another "Hubby" and "Wifey-poo"... guess what? They stuck. Just like HubbaBubba to the bottom of your shoe. Make it a good one. Jillybean

I volunteer "jico" for you- the slang for girlfriend here literally means KITCHEN- not sexist at all, eh? or you could both use "mchumba" meaning my room...so romantic ain't it? See, there are worst things than sweetie :)
